Thank you Steve (and of course Phil) for allowing us to copy this show. It is our first download from the Archives. Your superb and flawless recording was also complete. I've always been a fan of recording every note of every tune-up..
My son and I were at that same location for the first Phil and Jorma show and there was no comparison in crowd enthusiasm between the two performances.. Many of the overwhelming and endearing mass of "Terrapin" sing-a-long participants weren't even born when I first heard that song at the Spectrum in '77. No encore was needed for that show and people walked away from the building in a stupor.
Thank you again for allowing me to relive that rare thrilling headgame when you are anticipating (with certainty!) a specific song coming out of a jam and then, boom, you are hit with a most enjoyable substitute that knocks you off your feet, but you're still standing! At the end of a burning "Viola Lee Blues" I was pleasantly rolling into what I thought was "The Wheel " but soon "The Wheel "was sharing the wine and I knew the band had done it to me again. The jump into " Caution"brought me right back.
But most of all, thanks to your recording, I can better remember turning around and looking at my 19 year old son, as happy as any Deadhead could be.
It would be disrespectful not to mention the show closer. Amy and Allison were so hauntingly clear and cold that I was ready to start building our bomb shelter. Peace and Love

One of the best weeks of my life for dead shows. The week before I saw the Wolf Bros in Philadelphia on March 8( Bobby sang He's gone for Pigpen, since it was the anniversary of his death). Couple days later, I got to see my first Phil and Friends show. I thought I would never see him in person at all ( thanks dad for the tickets). I was 19 and managed to get tickets for the last show since it was on a Saturday. Sadly, my dad and I did not get the GA tickets so were were stuck on the balcony and could not record the show. What a night of surprises. Amazing set opener with Deal into Operator( at 19, I got lucky hearing an old Pigpen song that was only played 4 times in 1970, whilst my dad never got hear it until he was 68 at the Bobby and Phil show in NYC). Jackie Greene's vocals on High Time were marvelous, especially the crowd went nuts after he said "Come in when its raining". When Phil was teasing King Bee, I blurted the song title out and some concertgoers called me a piece of shit, and when Luther started singing, those guys apologized and shook my hands. My dad was happy since it was the first time he heard it live. Luther tries hard to sound like Pigpen. Loved the vocals on Brokedown and Sugaree transition. Viola Lee Blues and Caution were two of the spaciest dead songs I've heard at a concert. Benmont Tench's rendition of China Doll gave me goosebumps; his voice sounded eerie, and I loved the crowd singing along to the "la lal la" part. The song of the night for me was Terrapin, since I was supposed to hear Dead and Co play it at Camden in 2018 but the show rained out( and I was almost out of high school at the time). I loved the crowd singing the "Terrapin" section, very intense, and hearing Phil and Grahame take turns singing was cool. Morning Dew shocked me since I had just bought a hat that said Morning Dew( stylized as the Mountain Dew logo) at Shakedown Street. Good luck charm? The Midnight Hour/Lovelight encore was a great coda to the show- my dad had not heard Lovelight since the dead played it in 89. All in all, the show was spectacular for a young deadhead like me. Thanks Steve for the recording, sounds very clear.
